Hi,

I have an Elitebook 8470p Laptop that shows Black Screen without any backlight, seems dead, but Works FINE on an external Monitor.

I have figured out a faulty Lcd, tried an Elitebook 8440p Lcd but it has different connector.

I've tried also unplugging battery, pressing on button for 30 seconds and similar tricks (changing memories, hdd, etc) with no luck.

Any Help? Faulty Lcd (faulty ones have vertical lines, broken stains, dark display but not dead like this)? faulty Cables? Loosen connectors? faulty inverter? Suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

Edit: After pressing the display connector on the mainboard (not the one in the screen, that was checked before with no luck) just a little (it seemed well plugged) the screen lights up in black with some vertical lines (i'll unplug and plug again that display connector later).

Here are the pictures about the update

First, to eliminate all your worries, get a 14" slim 40pin lcd screen and test if the issue is resolved because the LCD unit already has a problem due to the vertical lines. If you still have display issues, you will then also replace the lvds cable.

Closely inspect the LCD cable especially near where it goes into the top part of the laptop. They can wear down just from being near the hinges and end up shorting.
But if it isn't the cable it is likely the LCD panel itself.
If it were the graphics chip going bad then it wouldn't display externally so that is why I think it is the cable or panel.

I've tried to tighten, plug, unplug the Lcd connector on the Screen but nothing happened (it was dead).

The screen lighted up (dark with vertical lines) just after pressing a bit the display connector on the mainboard.

I'll take apart the laptop later to fully unplug and plug the display mainboard connector.

If that doesn't work i need a way to find out if it's wrong the Cable or the Lcd.

I've dissasembled the computer, unplugged and plugged again Lcd cables on the motherboard and nothing changed.

Here are we are:

- Display Works Ok on external Monitor.
- Laptop Screen lights up, i can increase and decrease brightness, OK.
- Screen has some vertical lines and continues black (changing to grey if you increase the brightness).
- I can't even enter into the Bios Menu because it shows nothing.

Faulty Cable?
