Hello, i like to run game servers and i also like to do some stuff in unreal engine and such. I just need help deciding whether i should go for parts more marketed on the gaming side (generally cheaper) or get server based parts (generally more expensive).

Here is a list of what i want to do with it:

  • Primarily - Run game servers (such as 7 days to die, Counterstrike)
    ■ Compile Unreal Projects (Game development)
    ■ Compile videos
    ■ Host a light traffic forums website
    ■ Game on it (least important, but would like to be able to use it for if people come over and they can play on it if possible

My budget is about $1000, I just need help deciding if a server is the best way to go. I dont really care about getting every last drop of performance, I just want to host stuff on my own and save money on server costs.

With your budget, and multitasking needs, I would say a Ryzen 1700 would be a good choice.
