I have a Galaxy Tab 4 running 4.4.2, not rooted, that I cannot install any new apps. Today, though, Bloons TD5 is free! so I've been trying to get that on the tablet.

I'm getting the Free Up Space error window.

This is my young daughter's tablet. Before I realized what was going on I thought it was actually full so I uninstalled some rarely used games.

I really, really, really, do NOT want to do a factory reset on the thing. She's got a ton of games on it that she plays. Having to backup everything and restore everything is too stressful for me. And her.

I have already put pretty much everything on the SD card.

Google Play Services as well as Google Play have both had their updates uninstalled, had their data cleared and their cache cleared, then rebooted.

I went into Storage and touched Cached Data and cleared the data for all apps.

I ran Avast Cleanup.

After all that, I rebooted again and there is 3.13GB free on the device.

After all that, I was able to update all the apps but I still cannot install the new app.

Any ideas?

Solution
Problem solved.

The culprit was the sd card.

I unmounted the sd card, removed it, and rebooted the tablet, then tried installing BTD5.

It worked.

I put the sd card back in, waited for it to load, went to install BTD Battles.

It did not work.

I unmounted the sd card, left the card in, did not reboot, went to install BTD Battles.

It worked.

All the apps from the sd card will have to moved to the tablet, then the card will need to be formatted, or wiped and formatted.

Maybe I might not even need the card at all, who knows.
Have a read through this:

There are several cleaner apps you can try. But I think something else is going on. Bloons td5 only needs 512mb of space.

Is your free space on the tablet or on the SDHC card? Many apps will not install on a SD card.

Uninstalling system updates was a BAD idea. Just plain foolish. Keeping games over stuff which helps the games run right and keeps them virus free.
I'd suggest you make some space the smart way. Uninstall some of the games. Patch the system. Work on getting the OS working right rather than just trying to gut it.

Have you been able to install other apps? Pick something handy, like one of the CM utilities.

You can also try hooking it up to a computer to check it out?

I had specified that there is 3.13GB free on the device, not the sd card. The sd card itself has more than double that free.

I wholehearted disagree for two reasons. I've read in multiple reputable places that this can clear this issue. Further, after rebooting the device and waiting a few minutes, Google Play Services as well as Google Play automatically update themselves so there's no fear of, well, anything.

I did.

I did. Many games, and non-games. Let's just call them apps. There is already over three gig free. How much more room should I need?

I did. The os is running at its most current version.

The focus of that article is to teach the reader how to do things that I have already explained that I have done. I don't know why you gave a link to it.

This link is for the Windows 7 version so I haven't a clue why you would include that here.
