Hyper 212x vs Corsair H100i (Noise)

Considering noise on idle and load, which of these two CPU cooling solutions is quieter? The air-based Cool Master Hyper 212x or the liquid-based Corsair Hydro H100i GTX. The CPU is an Intel i7 7700K to be used in high-end gaming but not overclocked, at least for now. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Fans on the H100i are absolutely miserable. They spin at low rpm @1800 which is loud. There's no quiet about it anywhere. Swap out the fans for something decent like the new ML series, Noctuas, Phanteks, Nzxt, fractal design v2's, scythe GT's and you'll be good for both cooling and sound. The hyper212 can't match the top end, not even close. The 212 is 180w, the h100i is @300w of cooling potential. While this means nothing to idle loads, at high punishment loads it means a lot. It also means the fan(s) on the hyper212 will spin up a lot faster and get a lot louder much quicker, as the heatsink starts to get saturated and can no longer get rid of the cpu heat effectively.
The Corsair H100i is a top of the line water cooler that is ideal for cooling AMD systems and other rigs that get super hot. It will definitely keep things cool, and has very little noise. Especially if you don't plan on overclocking (Which is a waste of a 7700k if you ask me), it will still keep things quiet. Its a very nice cooling solution and I would definitely recommend it.
Although I should mention if your purpose is gaming without overclocking, then it would be a waste as its a very powerful cooler. If its just gaming and no other really intense processes, than I would recommend the Corsair H60 or the NZXT Kraken X42.

The thing is the NZXT Kraken X42 costs nearly as much as the Corsair H100i for what seems to be an inferior product.

Not talking about cooling power but noise. Are these water systems quieter than air in the models I mentioned above?

The stock fans on the H100i are PWM I believe, correct? So in stock configuration it's potentially more silent than the Hyper 212x?

Yes, its expensive and yes, its inferior. I just thought I'd tell you anyway.

I appreciate your input. How do you think they compare to an air-based solution like the Cooler Master Hyper 212X in terms of noise?

Thats the thing. Air cooling solutions are inferior in every category to water cooling except price/value. The H100i has a very quiet RMP and it has a Queit mode which is optimized to minimize noise

I'm worried because some users have reported that the pumps make much more noise than a standard fan on air cooling.

So in your opinion the 212x ends up being a better solution in terms of noise?

The best 2 aios as far as noise is concerned are the swiftechs and the nzxt Krakens. The fans on the Corsair aios perform quite well, the downside being they only do that at high rpm, high noise. In terms of performance, there's no competition between a 240/280mm aio and the hyper212. The only air coolers that'll come close are the Noctua NH-D14/NH-D15 and other massive twin towers. The Noctua and BeQuiet especially are very quiet for their performance levels. The only time a hyper212 can perform better than the h100i is in fan volume, it's much quieter, even maxed out. But you are comparing a high end cooler to a budget cooler, and thats not just in terms of price.

Despite being a budget cooler, will the Hyper 212 still do a decent job with an i7 7700K without overclocking?

Sure. A hyper212 is not much more than a better performance stock replacement. The question now is will it fit in your case? At 160mm tall, the hyper212 doesn't actually clear heights above motherboard in many smaller or thinner cases. Better options would be a cryorig H7 or deepcool gammax 400, those being 145mm and 154mm respectively.
