1080 vs 1080ti

Hi! I would like to ask two questions.
I currently have a Gtx 1080 with an i5 6500. I would like to know if there is any reason to upgrade from my 1080 to a Ti?
And will a Gtx 1080Ti will bottleneck an i5 6500.

Maybe worth it if you game at 4k 60Hz and cash isn't much of an issue. The Ti gives about 30% more fps. What res & Hz are you gaming at?

I'm currently playing at 1440. And some games like GTA V and Ghost recon wildlands drop frames. I never know whether it's optimization or my card not keeping up.

What fps & Hz? If high fps >100 Id expect your CPU may be limiting performance. What's your cpu usage when these drops happen?

At 1440p I don't think the 1080Ti is worth it even if you run a high Hz monitor. You would really want an overclocked cpu to help push the high fps, a 7700k would be perfect.

Use something like MSI Afterburner to monitor gpu & CPU usage to work out what is the limiting factors. If you only have a 1440p 60Hz then there is zero benefit of getting a Ti

its because your cpu can't keep up and therefore performance might be affected

Because 1440p @ 60Hz a 1080 should be pushing 60+ fps at 1440p in all games. You can only display 60 frames on a 60Hz screen, going higher fps just causes screen tearing.

If my CPU is on high usage it means that it's the factor that's limiting pushing 60 fps?

Yes but you need to look at individual cores as well as total CPU usage. Some games use all 4 cores but some don't. If a game that only uses 2 cores is maxing out 2 cores it still your CPU even though total usage is well under 100%

I7 ideally if your cpu is pegged at 100% in certain games, which it sounds like it probably is with the fps drops. 6700k/7700k sounds like a good bet for the best improvement your case.

What helps more is an overclocked i5 or i7 but I am surprised your 6500 dipping under 60 fps. You really need to check.

However, when a 6500 is using all 4 cores I think it only boosts to 3.4Ghz. The 6600k can usually easily be OC'd to 4.4Ghz, so that's an extra 29% all games can use. Only some games can benefit from an i7 in high fps setups

I looked at my cores % usage and saw this in GTA V and Ghost Recon wildlands.
In GTA sometimes my CPU maxes to 100% and when it's not maxed it hovers between 80-100%
In Ghost recon also sometimes maxes but not all of the time.
My hard disk is at 100%

Does it mean my CPU is my problem or maybe even my hard disk?
Also does my GPU needs to be maxed most of the time while the CPU is low on % or high % like 80-100 is natural?

Could be HDD, it shouldn't be at 100%. How much RAM do you have and what is its usage?
