Hi team, I need some help with my new PC bulit.

I bought Asus X99a-II that has a 8-pin and a 4-pin connector. For a PSU I have a corsair CX750 that has only the 8-pin connector :ouch:. I also have a single GTX 1080ti and 64 RAM DDR4.

I´m concerned about the performance of the computer if I use only the 8-PIN. I use the computer for video editing, so I wont SLI it, but I intend to overclock. I thought of 3 options:

1) Use only the 8-pin, if it doesnt make any harm to the motherboard and I´m still able to overclock
2) buy and Molex to ATX P4 4-pin adaptor (link)
3) Buy a new PSU. :(

What is the best solution? and what is this 4-pin for? I appreciate you help!

Att,
Filipe

Solution
Both 8-pin and 4-pin are used to power the CPU. If you had low-power CPU, you could just use 4-pin and be good. If you want to overclock CPU, amount of power used by the CPU is greater, so you want all those 12 pins connected.
As for adapter, yes you can use it, just make sure it is good quality. However, buying PSU that already has all the connectors you need is always safer option.
