SOLVED (see solution picked below) :D

EDIT:

WELL, Mr. Ironsounds you are officially my most favourite person in the world right about now!

After a TON of headache-inducing stress, sweat and (almost) tears. I stepped away for an hour. I came back - re-tried the CMOS reset, and IT WORKS! Thank you SO SO MUCH for all your help! You have no idea how relieved and happy I am! THANK YOU!

P.S: I'm guessing I either hadn't slotted something in right, or not shorted it properly.

THANK YOU AGAIN!

[strike][/strike]Hey,

I've just finished building my new rig. I haven't had the chance to put an OS on it, or, do anything with it for that matter.

EDIT: Ha, please ignore the fact that I missed out the most crucial part of information (I'm tired!):

It powers on, but none of the USB ports or anything will work. The peripherals appear disconnected/not registering as does the monitor!

It powers on, all lights are on, there's no beeping, or anything to indicate an obvious problem.

I've tried switching the RAM around, tried different peripherals in it, tried a different monitor etc. Nothing works at all.

Does anyone have any idea at all as to what I can try to fix it?

These are my specs:

OS: N/A
GPU: GTX 1070
CPU: i7 6700k
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED (16GB)
PSU: EVGA 850w
MOBO: Asus Z170M-Plus
Cooler: Corsair H100i
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120gb
HDD: WD Blue 1TB

P.S: This isn't my first build, I've built quite a few in the past, but I've spent 2 hours on it this time.. and I feel like I'm possibly over-looking something?

Please help! I'd be so very very grateful!

Thanks in advance.

Hello... Relax and try a few things first B )

2) Remove the MB battery... and Give the MB/BIO's a CMOS Clear/Reset per MB manual/pdf method (pins/push button?) for ~2 mins... remove jumper/SW, replace the battery and try another BOOT... with monitor connected to the MB connectors.

What are you using for a Monitor and cable connection?

Sometimes it can be an older BIO's version for a Newer CPU type used... and the proper (newest) Bio's needs to be installed first, for communications/ID of the CPU. B / ...You need 0208 for that CPU.

Hello... On first Boot of a New intel MB/BIO's... the CPU/IGT and MB video connectors will be active first (Intel® HD Graphics 530)... try removing the Video card and connecting to the MB Video connectors for a BOOT and display... also make sure your Monitor input is set for the Cable type you are using too.

Hey there,

Thanks for the suggestion, and super fast reply! Unfortunately it didn't work.
I honestly 'have no idea what's wrong with it.

Nothing will turn on at all - there's no signal to any of the peripherals incl monitor.
The fans are all on and working, lights are on, no obvious reason for it to be doing this...

Do you know if there's a possibility that a piece of my hardware may be damaged or anything like that?

Thanks.

Hey again,

Sorry for the delayed response - I tried what you suggested - still no luck.
So I exchanged the MOBO for another of the same (Asus Z170M-Plus)
And, again, the same issue..

I found a MOBO speaker that I have, and it's not making any beeps.
I even tried the other components with a family members i5 6500 Skylake
and again, no noise at all.

I have switched and swapped different components, and nothing appears to be fixing it.
It's SO frustrating.. if I had at least SOME idea as to what was causing it, then I'd have something to work from.
But I am honestly at a loss..

When I took the RAM out of the MOBO, the speaker THEN beeped (obviously an error that there was no memory found)
Does anyone have ANY idea at all?

I am at my wits end, and although I've been offered a SECOND refund/exchange.. I just want my rig to be working!

Thanks.

Hello... Yes... the "Proper CMOS" clear/reset procedure will allow the system to re-examine your installed Hardware and put the other basic BIO's settings back to the default/safe first BOOT settings. I typically do this to any NEW/OLD MB before working on it or changing the Memory hardware.

The purpose and the DATA, the CMOS memory holds, I find to be mis-understood here. It is used to PRE-store Hardware/software/Data Boot settings to allow faster BOOT, and eliminate the need to search or re-enter your hardware communications data to the BIO's every Boot cycle. All of this DATA gets backed up using the MB Battery.

For example... If you want to change/add Memory sticks or locations? do a CMOS clear before changing them, and allow NEW communication settings to be created with those stick types and their locations on the MB. This is WHY... just changing and swapping "things" around will "NOT" work and "It's SO frustrating..." The People, RMA's and MB's are going through a lot of un-needed stress for sure. B O ... For such a simple procedure.

With the intel CPU/GPU's now... the MB BIO's defaults to display from the MB... and putting the Video card in for first BOOT will not work, (as you found out)... I see this a lot here B )

Ahhh, I see! :D Well again, thank you so much for your help! (And explaining it for me) hopefully others with the same issue will see this!

I had never needed to do this for past builds - but I will definitely take this new information you've given me and use it everytime in future, like you! ;)

Thanks again!
