Ok, so, long time listener, first time caller. In essence, I've gotten a lot of solutions here, and I hope to find that I can find something specifically tailored to my current situation, because I'm not finding it anywhere else.

I've got an Alienware laptop, it's a few years old.
8GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 285M
Intel Core i7-740QM

Not really sure on the mobo, but I think you have the idea. It's not godlike, but it holds its own. This is where it gets weird.

I was just running Skyrim for the first time in months. Heavily modded (105 Mods to be specific), high settings for the graphics, 60 FPS. It drops to 45 at WORST. It's working great, which surprises me, because it's in stark contrast to the fact that when I try and play Terraria, or attempt to use a GCN or even an N64 Emulator I drop down to 10 FPS, 15 At BEST.

With the Emulators, it's everything I run on them. Terraria? Nothing I can do, and Starbound is the same way. Minecraft is Lag City too, to the point where I have to put it on some of the lowest possible settings, and Super Meat Boy doesn't even load. And that's in contrast to the fact that I run Skyrim fine. Dark Souls, little issue. Tales of Zestiria, perfect.

So, does anyone have any idea what could be causing an issue like this? Because I've looked everywhere, and I've tried everything. And I'm totally at a loss for what to do next.

Solution
Terraria - Re-install the game, verify game cache. What options you're using ? (Should be 60fps constantly).Lower lighting/quality (retro/trippy) surprisingly may grant you way lower frames than on highest.Try using stable steam client (opt out of beta option).
Minecraft - USE OPTIFINE mod.Mess around with different settings and you should be getting 200fps or even more with high settings.
Starbound - I wouldn't worry about it since it's not a very well optimized game.
Also make sure to uninstall any mods you have on either terraria or minecraft. What are your nvidia control panel settings, other details ?
