what happens if have a motherboard which supports 2133 mhz frequency of DDR4 RAM but I intall a 2400 mhz DDR4 RAM (Corsair vengence lpx ddr4 2400mhz [1*8gb])?
Motherboard i am having is-----Asus h110M-D

1.it will not work at all.
2.it will not work properly or efficiently.
3.it will absolutely fine but the RAM efficiency would be capped to 2133 mhz.


Also can i get the bios of motherboard updated to support the 2400 mhz frequency?

1xDIMM vs 2xDIMM is the number of slots available or used. Paladin said you have 2 x DIMM meaning you have two RAM slots. As far as 1x8GB vs 2x4GB, that will depend. You will get marginally better performance out of utilizing dual channel memory sets in...

If the motherboard cannot support the higher speed via O.C., then it will default the memory speed to the lower; your 3rd choice.

can i know the main difference between 1*DIMM and 2*DIMM?
I am a confused a lot with these two terms

and can u advice me should i go for 1*8 gb or 2*4gb ram?

1xDIMM vs 2xDIMM is the number of slots available or used. Paladin said you have 2 x DIMM meaning you have two RAM slots. As far as 1x8GB vs 2x4GB, that will depend. You will get marginally better performance out of utilizing dual channel memory sets in 2x4GB than you would with just a single stick of 8GB. The single stick would also allow you to add an additional one later to upgrade if you wanted. The problem is that you would need an identical stick to the one you already have, so it is recommended you get both stick at the same time. However, both methods are very doable.
