Hey everyone!

Question for everyone looking for some advice.

I have a 1440p / 144hz / G-SYNC display. About two weeks ago, I sold off my 980 Ti FTW.. the card was loud and was starting to loose its value (plus aftermarket cooling support was horrible)... ended up getting around $360 for it.

I was looking at possibly just getting a EVGA 1080 FTW Hybrid for $560 or the SC for $510, I am having a hard time justifying the extra money for the 1080 Ti... with my g-sync monitor, in my opinion really the difference between the two cards won't be massive seeing game play wise wont be much unless I stare at my FPS counter. I feel this I can save a few bucks, seeing I made the investment in a high-end gaming monitor.

I play DOOM, Overwatch, BF1 and thats about it. CIV 6 & ARMA are CPU bound.

I thought about getting the just a EVGA 1080 SC then stepping up in 90 days to hopefully a non-FE 1080 Ti.

1080 Now with Price drop...
$360 + 200 = 1080 Gaming Hybrid ($560)
$360 + 150 = 1080 SC ($510)

1080 Ti
$360 + $340 = 1080 TI ($700 Founders - don't want anything to do with the cooling.)
$360 + $400 = 1080 Ti ($7?? AIB / Non-FE - guessing on price)

$240 different to a FE Edition (won't be buying)
$300 atleast for a AIB 1080 Ti

Maybe this week AIB 1080Ti's will drop?

I want a quiet, high performing card. Tired of hearing the fan noise.

Thoughts?

On your GTX1080 options, I think the SC is likely the better deal.
When you look at the boost clock numbers as an indicator of capability, they are the same.

I think, really, that the GTX1080ti founders edition might be your best choice.
The performance is there in spades without overclocking and the resulting need for high fan speeds.
One can do some fine tuning of fan speed vs. performance.

I suppose you could go the GTX1080SC route, planning on a GTX1080 step up.
It is possible that you will be satisfied with the SC card and not need the step up.
It is a plus to have that option.
But, a step up will be only to the base edition, so you might as well buy the FE up front.

We have no good info on when the cards with fancy coolers will appear nor how quiet they will be.

I happen to like the blower coolers. I use a GTX980tiSC with the blower cooler. It is all but inaudible in my case.

What is your case?
Does it have sufficient intake airflow to let the cpu and gpu coolers do their job well?
