hello there,
first off my system
i5 4460 with silentium pc fera 2 cooler
msi rx 470 4g
mobo msi h81m-p33
2x 8gb 1333mhz ram
seasonic energy knight 500W 80+bronze
samsung evo 850 ssd 120gb (OS)
wd black 2 tb (games)
toshiba 1tb (data)
windows 10x 64bit
crimson 17.3.1
monitor LG 29um68 (modified freesync range 28-80hz)

Now for the problem. Lately my system has issues with sudden FPS drops from 80 to 40 or so and back up. These drops last about a half a second. It happens randomly, the scene does not have to be demanding. I already know that my psu's coil has something with it, because under the load I can hear clicking sound from it. But, it was working okay. Now, about month it is, whenever the drop occurs, I can hear the psu clicking sound stop and then resume, just as the fps drops and get back up.
Is my psu at fault or something else?

Your psu is clicking? i never heard a psu click i've heard them buzz which is usually coil wine.Coil wine wont damage your pc or cause fps drops.

But to answer your question a failing hdd can cause fps drops or make a game completely lock up , a failing psu can cause low fps or shut down the pc if it doesn't have enough power. A baddly optimized game or cpu heavy title like an mmo while playing outside a city gives you steady fps inside a raid or city fps will drop. Try moving your game to your ssd if you have space or to your other hdd and see if the drops are gone. if you have a spare psu to test with change it. Check your windows event viewer and see any critical errors your pc might be getting. Unpark your cpu cores if you...

If you overclocked your gpu and didn't apply enough voltage that can also cause fps drops. Hope it helps.
