Which would be an upgrade for an A-10 7700K? an FX 8320e or an A10 7860k?

I bought an RX 460 nitro and i was thinking of upgrading my MOBO, PSU and CPU.
If i wanted a CPU that would be better for gaming
which should i go to? is AM3+ a good upgrade? should i just keep the RX 460 with the 7700K or upgrade to the above mentioned (title) CPU/APU's??
EDIT: CPU's im considering are: A-10 7860K, FX 8320e and Athlon X4 860K.
Anything with a 95w or lower power draw would be good. (im using a 400W EVGA PSU ATM)
Currently using FM2+ MOBO (MSI)

While you *could* perform an "upgrade" to one of those, it isn't much of an upgrade, and much closer to stepping sideways into them (with minor improvements.) Plus both those sockets are pretty much dead. Ryzen 7 is released now, with Ryzen 3 and 5 coming soon (plus the...

I believe it's worth adding in that Intel Skylake (6th gen) has the same IPC as Intel Kaby Lake (7th gen). Kaby Lake is an overclocked Skylake with better integrated graphics, and many Kaby Lake chips have higher default voltages than their Skylake brothers. Skylake and H110 seems to be the sweet spot for budget builds, and Kaby Lake and B250 seems to be better for mid ranged builds. No need to pay for a Z series motherboard unless you plan to overclock.

You have no useful upgrades that use your current motherboard.

A RX460 is fine with your 400w psu.

With your apparent budget, I suggest at least kaby lake G4620, a 51w cpu, a B250 motherboard, and yes, a 2 x 4gb kit of ddr4 ram.

You will have cpu upgrades to I3, I5, and even i7-7700K available to you.

You have no other option.
So long as your current setup does the job, stay with it.

And... in the mean time, try to determine the relative importance of a fast cpu vs. a fast graphics card as it applies to
YOUR work.

I was thinking about going for an AM3+ MOBO with a AMD card that was better than the 7700K then later upgrade the PSU to a 500W then in 6 months upgrade to ryzen. But power consumption is very important as well so i try to avoid 125w cpu's and stick to 95w or less. I saw some sexy AM3+ mobo's so since i already bought the RX 460 nitro i was wondering if i needed an FX series AM3+ cpu for it or upgrade to a better A10?

While you *could* perform an "upgrade" to one of those, it isn't much of an upgrade, and much closer to stepping sideways into them (with minor improvements.) Plus both those sockets are pretty much dead. Ryzen 7 is released now, with Ryzen 3 and 5 coming soon (plus the Zen based APUs)... all of which use the new AM4 socket and are not backwards compatible (at the socket) with previous generations.

If you have your heart set on AMD as the upgrade path, you'll need to wait a little while longer for the viable upgrades using Ryzen 3 or 5, or the new APUs.

IF you don't want to wait, don't care what you upgrade with, or switched your preference to Intel (doubtful on this last one as your reason, if you do go this route) there is the Pentium G4560 as the lowest entry point, or the i3-7100 for improved performance.

If you lack funds, save and wait is the way to go if you wish to stick to AMD. if Ryzen 3 and 5 pricing reflect Ryzen 7 pricing differences compared to Intel, the price may well be worth the wait.

as for $200, you'd need to squeeze the CPU (in this case, the Pentium I mentioned would be best), an inexpensive motherboard (probably a B250 based board) and DDR4 RAM (8GB) would be tight, but not impossible,

Sticking with an ATX board:

CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($59.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI B250 PC MATE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($89.99 @ B&H)
Memory: Avexir Core Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($55.15 @ Amazon)
Total: $205.13

Power Draw associated with these parts: 129W for CPU (54W TDP), RAM and Motherboard.

Dropping down tow a smaller microATX format motherboard:

CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($59.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI B250M BAZOOKA Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($80.14 @ Amazon)
Memory: Avexir Core Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($55.15 @ Amazon)
Total: $195.28

with a total power draw attributed at 119W

Just note the only CPU listed here as an upgrade that is probably significant enough in performance to really notice is the i3-7100. The Pentiums are a tier above the 7700k APU, and offers good improvements, but they might not be enough to notice. The Pentium-G4560 is also the cheapest CPU listed in this thread for a currently offered CPU.

My advice is to wait and save up more money.... perhaps divert some of your APU upgrade money towards a GTX-1050ti. Just choose carefully to minimize power draw, Your APU is still sufficient, for the moment, for playing all but the most demanding of games.

Solution
Presumably, your interest is for gaming.
Games depend primarily on a single fast master thread.
Few can effectively use more than 2-3 threads.
The passmark rating for your A10-7700K is 5173 and the single thread rating is 1491.
The passmark rating for the FX-8320e which you suggested is 7942 and single thread 1360. That is a step back for gaming.
Google any other cpu for the passmark rating, and pay particular attention to the single thread rating if you are a gamer.
You will find that any other fx processor will have a single thread rating in the 1500 range.

FWIW, the G4600 has a rating of 5169 and a single thread rating of 2142.

Good point guys, i guess thats why the dude at Mirco center picked it up i guess. the Pentium G series is the new Budget king CPU and works good with an GTX 1050 but since im already on the red team i thought i might aswell stick to their products. Those Am3+ MOBO's (Asus and MSI) look sexy as hell.
Ill wait until the other ryzen products come out and the lower on the price of the AM4 MOBO's.
Gonna be sad not having those sexy Am3 MOBO's :(
