So, yeah. I found this 7 year old computer that i used a long time ago in my garage. And i wanted to get it running again. After replacing some leaky capacitors on the motherboard. I then realized that the only thing i needed was a hard drive, because the computer already had a power supply, cd rom, etc. And after searching in my house the only one that i found was this old 10gb hard drive, so i decided to use it. I hooked it up to the computer via psi cable, connected it to the power supply and turn the computer on.

The computer worked, as i expected. And i could even boot the windows 98 that the hard drive had, only in safe mode though. But i didnt wanted windows 98, its too obsolete. And the lightest and most recent OS option i had was windows xp. I tried installing it with an installation disk, it formated the hard drive, copyied the files, everything. But the furthest i got was to the installation, then the computer showed a blue screen and that's all. I tried again and this time the computer showed: "restarting installation program" for like 30 minutes, and then, blue screen! What can i do? Please, i will apreciate any suggestions!

Have done this myself many times with legacy hardware recently. Should not be a problem if you erased the old partition and reformatted the drive in NTFS (not FAT 32) using the WinXP install disk. Be aware a 10gb drive of that era may be ATA-66 and will have slow transfer speeds.

Yeah, i have formated the disc in NTFS in all my attempts. But i always get the same result. I think (if no one else replies) im going to give up and just buy a new hard drive. But well, im out of ideas for now. Thanks anyway Susquehannock!

Thanks for the support! I've been looking through and found out that i had connected the ide cables in an incorrect order. I putted the black end to the motherboard, the blue to the cd-rom and the gray to the hard drive. I reconnected them. Hope this was the issue.
