i7 vs FX8320 Second Life

Alright, I work in the IT field everyday, I occasionally play games here and there but I have no idea if the performance between these 2 CPU's is anything to waste my time over.

Anyway this is for my Aunt, she plays Wow, Sims 3 & 4 and a lot of Second Life even multiple viewers open on different accounts and youtube (shes disabled). Shes using my old AMD FX 8320 system with a GTX 670, she complains about performance and low FPS when there are a lot of people around, even with graphics set to low, she plays in windowed mode and she has 2 monitors, even with 1 viewer open performance is still lacking even in an empty area.

I have a i7 3770s on a Asus P8Z77-V which it will do 4.1 or 4.2ghz easily, i have no idea if this game will perform any better on that i7. I would just like to see if anyone had any experience with this game and simlar CPU's. Its a pain to tear apart the AMD system just to try it out because I would need to use its cooler RAM PSU and storage and the case is not easy to work in, and I need to buy a windows license as that z77 never had windows 10 installed on it.

So would it be worth my trouble to tear it apart and swap the boards out? Worth spending my money and time to make the changes?

Specs AMD:

OS: Windows 10 x64
CPU: AMD FX8320 4.4ghz (h80i cooler)
MOBO: ASRock 990FX Fatality Professional
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 2400mhz
GPU: EVGA GTX670 2GB
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 550G2

Intel I'd just be changing the CPU and Motherboard, and of course buying a Windows key.

Thanks.

if game is unoptimized on your pc then it's gonna be worse on amd cpu...
There may be an issue in the BIOS settings for the processor - or heat related issue. The 8320 and the GTX 670 should perform fairly well - I doubt if a core i-7 will improve performance dramatically. The core i-7 is a faster processor, but something with the OS configuration or BIOS appears to be the issue.

I never played second life, but from what I've seen its not such a demanding game (and an old one) so I dont know why it stutters. maybe its gpu problem and is not peforming well or maybe its cpu problem. you need to monitor them and with program like msi afterburner and monitor their speeds to see if they throttle or something.

i7 is much better than 8320 in gaming in general though as single core peformance of 8320 is poor. but you still should not have a stutter with 8320 with such an old game

Well second life from what I read and gathered its some forum of OpenGL and is badly optimized, The current system has a fresh install of windows 10, its also on a h80 max temps on quit mode is 52C running Intel Burn Test, GTX 670 is around 80C max with the GPU-Z stress test, I don't think heat is much of an issue as everything stays at its maximum clocks according to the software, its always been slow in Second Life so she says I just never took the time to look at it but in crowded areas Fraps reports single digit FPS on high not ultra, Low settings and off on settings that can be turned off its in the low teens.

I have no idea to be honest, The system requirements the FX should run circles around the game. She tried 3 other Viewers and the performance is around the same. I've been trying to find tweaks around google, but everything is from like 2010 or 2012 which has no effect on the newer updated software and of course Linden Labs (The publisher I believe) website is under construction so it will be offline for a week or so I was told, so I can't look up stuff on their forums.

I should have her install and login to the game on my PC and see what happens. I wish I had more parts to throw that motherboard together lol.

an i7 will demolish and outdated fx when it comes to gaming. still though an fx still have some peformance in it.

cant really tell much because i dont play such games, but maybe its badly optimized for amd cpus. you can try with the i7 and maybe then the frames will hopefully be nice. if not well then its other part problem or pc problem. my recommendation in general when you have fps problem in a certain game is go and check other games and see if the problem is only in the game so you'll if it's a game related issue or a hardware/OS related issue.

Well I had my aunt play the game on my system, and performance was better, but in the same crowded area performance was vary poor on high settings, though lowering the view distance and disabling all shadows did make it playable, way better than what her computer is doing, Ultra I also see low teens at 1080p and even 720p FPS stayed the same.

CPU usage never went past 15%, 1 780ti was around 10 - 20% at best on the system in my sig. I think its just that poorly optimized, considering how long its been out and how muddy the textures look, it don't run too well on a decent system.

Still not sure if I should swap her AMD system out for the Intel stuff, I might.

if game is unoptimized on your pc then it's gonna be worse on amd cpu as its worse. so the i7 will help however you can also introduce her to other games which are new but in the same genre.

Solution
Bought a windows key and got everything switched over, The game seems smoother, although FPS is below 20s at times on crowded areas but now she can have multiple viewers open and it don't seem to slow down the other viewer like on the AMD system, and the starwars game she plays she says plays a lot better again thats an old game as well and unoptimized.
