Hi,

I am getting this PC built in the coming weeks to be able to work part-time from home. I will mostly be using this computer for creating/texturing hi-rez meshes in 3dsmax, Substance Designer/Painter, Photoshop and Zbrush...no overclocking/playing games, etc.

I tried to base a lot of what I'm thinking I'd need on the workstations we have here at work (HP Workstation z240), but trying to get the cost down. Here is what I have so far:

MOB: MSI Z270 TOMAHAWK ATX LGA1151 DDR4-3600
CPU: INTEL® CORE™ I7-7700 Processor 8M Cache 4 Cores 3.6GHZ
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING, ACX 2.0 6GB GDDR5, DX12
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Lpx 32GB 2X16GB DDR4-2400MHZ CL16
SSD: Corsair force series mp500 240gb M.2 NVMe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 550W Gold Modular (?)

I'll be getting 2 of my old 1tb hard drives added to this build as well, and I currently use 3 additional old external drives (1-2 tb each) for storing files.

Will 550w be enough for this system? I checked the various on-line calculators and it seems so, but the guy at the store said "I was cutting it close". I will be upgrading to 64gb of ram by the end of the year and I might also be upgrading the graphics card within the next 3-5 years as well.

PS: I'm also thinking of getting a fan for my cpu (Cooler Master Hyper T2), but is it really needed in my case?

Thanks for your time!

The G3 is currently in stock. The stock fan is not the best for noise and is annoying to install, but it works, yes. To answer your other question, there's no way to tell how good or bad graphics cards will be in 3-5 years. They could take more power or less...

I'll see if they have one in stock, if not I'll just go with the G2 for now. If ever I upgrade the graphics card in say 3-5 years would there be a possibility of not having enough power?

PS: Ok so the version of the i7 Im thinking of getting has a stock fan that comes with it, so I guess this should be good enough.

Ok I think I'll see how the stock fan sounds and if its too noisy in time I'll just upgrade it later on. Thanks for your help!
