I have a HP Pavilion a4313w model PC and I wanted to update the ram for it, I looked up the specs to see what was allowed, but it only reads half of the ram stick, Example I put in two 2GB DDR2 ram sticks and It only reads 2GB. I went into Bios and I thought that one was bad it turned out that it was only reading 1GB from each stick. The Specs say it can hold two 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 sticks and I don't Know what else to try. My current specs are

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 3GB ram

Bios: 5.55 12/8/2009

CPU: AMD Sempron LE-1300

PSU: 350 watt

I took out the WinModem
And of coarse the two DDR2 sticks
and everything else is what is on the HP specs site.

I couldn't Find a Supported Bios update so that is kind of out of the question.

Solution
Thanks.

The module part number (on upper right of the label) is 996755(?) If so, then EACH of the two modules from the 2 x 1 GB kit has 1 GB capacity.

You actually have a pair of 1 GB modules and NOT 2 GB modules, so the system is reporting the correct amount (1 GB) capacity for each of the two modules, for a total capacity of 2 GB for the system.

It is a mushkin enhanced Silverline modle:09967550896s22783220009

Thanks for the extra information!

Actually I believe the module model/part number should be on the upper right of the label, and it might be 991756? Is that correct?

With Mushkin memory there is a lack of technical information that is readily available, so even knowing this part number (991756), I can't be certain of the modules' actual configuration.

Either above (most likely), or below the bar code on the module label, what is the exact number printed there, please?

Yes, that is correct.

Mis-reading/mis-interpreting memory details/labels does happen fairly often! :)
