I recently upgraded my graphics card from a GTX 550ti to a GTX 1050ti (and my RAM), used driver sweeper to get rid of the old drivers before installing the new ones (so far so good). New card works perfectly, however whenever I restart or turn off and later reboot computer, the computer seems to think the old card is still there and none of the applications that require the new card (like games) work. I can fix this by doing a full reinstall of the driver, but again when I turn off or reboot the same problem arises. I can also keep the computer in sleep mode, and it will work fine until I turn it off.

I've tried this on numerous applications, same problem. I feel like the problem has something to do with when the computer turns off and reboots, but I don't know enough to figure out beyond that. Anyone know how to fix it?

Intel i5-2400
16 GB ram (upgraded from 8GB)
Gtx1050ti (recently upgraded from 550ti)
ASUS P8Z6-V MOBO
Windows 7

Solution
Although I don't normally like using the utility, try running ccleaner and do a registry clean-up. See if that helps. Check for a newer BIOS for the motherboard, try resetting the BIOS to defaults (unplug system, pull CMOS battery for 10 seconds). If that does not help, try a clean Windows setup.

run windows in safe mode and use this software to uninstall the current drivers http://display-driver-uninstaller.en.lo4d.com/
then reinstall the proper drivers in normal mode after reboot
