Laptop Won't Connect To Internet (Impossible Problem - This literally seems to break the laws of physics)

I like to think of myself as fairly tech-savvy when it comes to basic stuff like this, but I'm totally stumped.

I have a wireless router with various devices connected to it - phones, laptops, TVs, even the central heating. Standard stuff.

Most of them work just fine, but we have a new laptop that just won't work. At all.

It's a Lenovo Ideapad 100 (don't ask - not my idea) and otherwise works fine. Nothing changed on it, no unusual programs, nothing dodgy downloaded or anything like that. The problem is it won't connect to the internet. It connects to the router (or so it says) but says "No Internet" which is a lie. There is internet, I'm on it now.

It also won't connect to the router's config page, which for some reason it thinks is a web page. This is also a lie, as it says it is connected to the router. If it is connected to the router, how can it not be connected to the router?

It's Schrodinger's cat in computer form.

I've tried the usual stuff - flushing the DNS cache, resetting the router, changing the channel, the usual stuff. NOTHING works.

So I'm at a total dead-end.

I thought it might be the router (was fairly old) but phoned Sky and asked for a new one. So we now have a brand new router. Same problem.

Like I say, this seems to defy all logic. In over 30 years I've NEVER known a computer problem like this. There's stuff that is WAY beyond my understanding, but there's normally some clue, some idea of what the problem is, even if the solution is "this is way too complex for me, better call a friend who's an expert". But with this there's NOTHING. NOTHING to give even the slightest hint of what might be wrong.

Hmm, will double check on the 5ghz issue. Seems unlikely given it DID work with the old router before suddenly stopping, and very briefly with the new one, again before suddenly stopping. Will check though.

As for ipconfig, what info do you need me to bring up/paste here?

OK, just checked - router (Sky Hub) is in "Auto" mode in terms of the wi-fi network, which means it is compatible with B, G, and N devices.

It also says at the top of the Wireless Setup page "2.4ghz Wireless Settings", which seems to confirm it's 2.4ghz anyway.
