Dear experts,

When i play Rise of the tomb raider on my friend's gtx 1060 @ full settings, dx12 enabled i can play without any crash or freezes but when i use gtx 1070, it crashes within 2 min. This crash occurs only on this game, be it any settings i choose, lowest - highest , dx11, dx12 etc. Rest of the game runs fine on 1070. I'm using latest drivers from nvidia. I want to run this game with gtx 1070 and not 1060.

My Rig is as follows :

Core i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz
Asus P8P67
8GB Ram
Benq XL2411
Seasonic S12ii-620W
GTX 1070

GTX 1070 is just 2 month old and the problem persisted with Tomb raider since first day and i've been searching fixes and solutions but couldn't find. Finally, i've posted here expecting some answers.

Did you use the same driver, just swapped the gpu? You should try reinstall the driver after you plugged the GTX 1070. If it still crashes, turn off all overclock in your overclock software (if any). The odd thing is it only trouble with Tomb Raider, not other game. But you should try reinstall the driver and turn off any overclock.

Other than that, it might be faulty product.

As said, it MAY be related to overclock of the GTX1070. I had freezing in Witcher 3 after overclocking my card.

If you didn't overclock then underclock for now both the GPU and Memory to 90% of full. If that's not the issue go back to defaults.

*If I understand correctly, it crashes on BOTH systems? If so, it's probably the card and likely because this game is more demanding than others so it's enough to stress the card to failure.

delete all nvidia drivers with DDU uninstaller and reinstall the driver from nvidia.com

Like said before, check the overclock of your CPU.
Run prime95 version 26.6 with the option "smallFFT" + coretemp and check temperature after 10min

run furmark to check the temp of the 1070

did you plug in all PCIe power connectors into the 1070?

install memtest86+ onto an usb flash drive and boot from it

run 3dmark firestrike, click on compare result online and post the upcoming link

Thanks for all your replies, Yes i made sure to uninstall old drivers and install the new drivers. Now, i had no problem in Battlefield 1 with GTX 1060 but the game crashes at start with gtx 1070. I have not overclocked at all other than factory oc. Temps are within limit 68C and have checked all power connectors. My GTX 1070 comes with micron memory, and it had some voltage issues , so i updated bios to latest one but still issue persists. I'm afraid this card might be having some issues and i've become that unlucky fellow :(

I'll post the results of 3dmark firestrike soon.

1x 6pin + 1x 8pin PCIe connector plugged in? The 8pin plug consists of two parts, 6pin+2pin.

Clear cmos by jumper (reset BIOS), while the 1070 is inserted.

run prime95 smallfft + coretemp for minimum 10min, does the CPU frequency drop and how high is the temperature
run furmark for about 10min

awaiting your firestrike results ;)

did you check the serial number of this 1070 graphics card before updating the BIOS? (602-V330-43S....)
Does the version show 86.04.50 in GPU-z now?
