So i built this computer in 2012 and have been slowly upgradeing it since its specs are
mobo:ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155
Cpu: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz
cpu cooler:CORSAIR Hydro Series H100
gcard:Geforce 780 oc
RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)x2
PSU:700w Corsair psu

So i have 2 questions
1. i recently upgraded to a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 8GB worked great the first few days then my screen went green and then when comp booted up all i would see is a black screen put my old gcard back in there and worked good as new is there something im missing? is my psu not strong enough? i already contacted amazon and there gonna replace it but pretty much what i'm asking is did i just get a bad one or did something cause it to fail? my friend told my i should upgrade my psu beacuse its a few years old.
2.is it better just to have two sticks of ram or 4 says 8gigs reguardless because the other 2 are linked (foget the termonolgy for it)

Solution
Likely, the card was defective and suffered "infant mortality"

GTX1080 should run ok on even 520w; your psu is not likely to be the problem

Ignore the BIOS update suggestion unless there is a fix in the update that addresses your problem( which I think is unlikely).
Bios flashes are risky.
If it should fail, you may be left with a difficult recovery process, and the possibility that your motherboard is permanently bricked.

It is better to have a 2 x 8gb ram configuration.
LGA155 is dual channel, regardless of the number of sticks.
Moreover, ram must be matched.
Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up...

A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
This is more difficult when 4 sticks are involved.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.

Disparate kits working is not a 100% certainty.
You have no recourse if it does not.
How would you feel if you bought 8gb more and it was incompatible??

If you want 16gb, I suggest you buy a compatible 2 x 8gb kit.
You can try and see if adding your existing 8gb works. If so, good, you have 24gb.
If not, sell the old ram or keep it for a spare.
