So my fiance recently bought me the Roccat Sova Lapboard which is amazing and now I am able to play a bunch of games from my couch through the steam link. However, yesterday I was thinking why continue using the steam link if i could just hook up my desktop directly to the TV and get a higher resolution and possible better performance since I don't have to go through the link. Long story short i just want opinions on what you would do. I don't really play competitive games like BF or CS:GO im more into Single player and MMO's so i don't think the TV's input lag would be a huge game changer. Some info below might help with decision making

GPU: ASUS GTX 1070 STRIX
CPU: Intel i5 3570-k
TV: Vizio 4k P50-c1 (60Hz)
Monitor - run of the mill LG 1080P (60HZ)

I have done some reading and it is kind of a mixed bag. I know with the GTX1070 will not be able to run 4k at ultra however many people say 4k at medium - high still beats 1080P on ultra.

Solution
may as well give it a try and see ? maybe a bit light on the card to push 4K to its full potential. like said if I had it to play around and experiment I would .

if you don't try and see you just don't know

just check the hdtv manual on any PC use some cant do pc timings at 4k anyway and you need a cable to support 4k @60hz as well

example [ this hdtv can on hdmi 1-2 and 3 only]

PC timing
3840x2160 @ 60 Hz (HDMI1, 2, 3 only), 30Hz (HDMI4 only)
1920 x 1080@ 60 Hz
1360 x 768 @ 60 Hz 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz 800 x 600 @ 60 Hz

Yah I am gonna try it just to see what I think. Do u have a personal opinion as I said it seem like reviews are mixed. Would u prefer 1080p on ultra or 4K on med-high?

If I had a 4k monitor, I'd probably end up playing 4k using my GTX1050 at medium detail. I don't care all that much about eye-candy and in many cases, I turn details down anyway simply to get rid of distracting or half-baked effects.

It is highly subjective stuff.
