Houston, I have a problem!

Here are the specs on my machine.

Case - Cooler Master RC-690
PS - Rosewill|RG530-2 530W R
MB - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
CPU - Intel E7400 2.8Gig 775 RT
Mem - G-Skill 2Gx2|GSK F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ R
HD - 2 500G|WD WD5001AALS Sata3Gig
Vid - EVGA 512-P31150-TR GTS250 R
Optical - Samsung SH-S223Q LS
OS - Vista Home Premium 32Bit
Windows 7 32
Windows 10 64 Evaluation

With the exception of the case and multiple HDD’s and OS’s, this is a system that was suggested by guys on this site at the time I built it. Over the years people here have gotten me through several “situations” that were beyond my abilities, for which I am forever grateful.

So here’s the layout. When I built this system around seven years ago I put in three HDD drives. Only two were connected and the third was held as a spare.

Recently I have been experiencing weird operation on the Vista system despite doing a complete reinstall on the same partition, reformatted. Finally I decided to just install it on the unused drive and move the other OS’s to that new drive also. That has now been completed.

So….. now Vista seems to run just fine on the new drive, but it won’t connect to the Internet. Device Manager shows that the drivers are installed, but it just won’t connect. Tried reinstalling the drivers… no cigar. Re-entered the name, password, etc. Nothing. Checked cable from router, and don’t remember now just what else, but exhausted my, limited, knowledge with no results. Decided the NIC on the MB was shot.

Then I reconnected the original OS disc and booted up to Vista. Walla, Internet works just fine, so board is not the problem.

Thoughts???

Ancillary question would be: do you think there will be any problem activating the OS’s on a different drive in the same machine?

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Tom

BINGO!!! Is there a hero badge available here for you guys???

I would have sworn that I did that operation among all the other things I tried, but it didn't act the same way when it was doing it as it did this time so that may explain it. But either way your suggestion prompted me to try it again and this time it worked like a charm. You guys are scoring scoring 100% with me. You always have the right answers. Thanks a whole lot. -Tom
