Hello all,
Specturm is coming out tomorrow to install 100 Mb service in my new house (2 stories, 60 feet wide 50 feet deep, 3800 sqft). I want to have my modem+wireless router installed in my office which is in a front 1st story corner of the house and I'm assuming my old Asus 3 antenna N router (dont have the model # on me) will not get the job done as it had some spotty coverage in a smaller house.
So I would like suggestions on should be able to handle the task. I'm willing to spend a premium to get good coverage such as a flag ship router or like the AmpliFi HD system but I'm all ears for something that can get the job done at a cheaper price point.
thanks!

Seamless roaming on consumer equipment is spotty at BEST. Consumer equipment is not designed for seamless roaming. I recommend using different SSID for each WIFI source and manually selecting between them. It works more reliably.

Nope I wish. Its beyond me why a homes built in 2000 and later dont have that by default. Well my asus 450Mbps N router did surprising well. Didnt do any rigid tests but just walking around with my iphone the wifi indicator never dropped below 2 bars at any point in the house with it just sitting on the floor in my office. Youtube did play slowly though but not sure if due to wifi strength.
I still think I want to upgrade my router though to something that can get a higher signal at those furthest out spots.
For something like the AmpliFi HD system would you seamlessly jump between the different access points as you walk around the house?

Most routers output the same amount because of govt regulations. And just because your phone has an incoming signal, doesn't mean that the phone can broadcast back to the router. That is why multiple WIFI sources in a house is a better solution.

I would start with trying a powerline networking WIFI access point to add a second WIFI source. Something like this -- http://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-5509_TL-WPA8630-KIT.html

thanks, do you know how seamless it is to jump between different access points in a powerline wifi network? I have several tablet/laptop users who will be frequently moving about with them.

that would be difficult considering I have little kids who wont be able to do this on their own. Would a mesh network be any more smoother in automatically jumping devices to the best access point?
