CPU overheating after being stable for about a year

So a few days ago I noticed that my i76770k was getting in the high 80s playing resident evil 5 with a friend.
Freaking out I assumed that my Corsair h110i pump died. So I went out and got a $40 cooler master cooler. Now at first I was still getting the same high temps. After my third reset I finally have somewhat stable temps after resetting clocks to default. Opening Firefox gets me 60c Now I can't even run prime 95 (I used to) temps skyrocket to 100c in seconds. Now I tested my CPU on cinebench and its performing at the range it's suppose to on stock settings. Temps or high 70c.

Any ideas what it could be.
Rapid temps fluctuations from 30c-50c
And yes I clean and use different thermal compound

Solution
Part of the problem is that heatsink fan you have has a low rpm speed, thats not great for your chip that gets really hot in a short amount of time.
The other part is the thermal grease, I kid you not, but artic silver 5 really doesn't do a good job.
It wears out to quickly over time, especially on high clock speeds at 4.0ghz and up.
About applying thermal grease, I put 2 pee drops on my intel cpu tiny drop in the middle put the heatsink on turn clockwise gently then lock it down into place.

Also check your bios cpu tempature for about 10 minutes to make sure the...
Model name and number of the heatsink fan will help out, also which thermal paste did you use ?
Also how did you apply the grease, if you applied it improperly, yeah the cpu won't cool properly until you do it the right way.
Does the corsair h110i still function and not damaged by normal wear and tear use all year ?

Enermax t40f-tb (sorry thought it was a cooler master)
Arctic silver thermal paste
As I know nothing seemed wrong with my water cooler.
I think I remembered it show the fan/pump on the tachometer.
I'll test that when I get off work.

As for how I applied it. I did pea size blob in the middle. High temps. Small line across CPU. High temps. And finally I spread evenly across with a credit card. Cleaned with 99% alcohol and coffee filters
