Hi all,

I'll be moving to Melbourne soon, and unfortunately I am unable to carry along my gaming desktop due to the weight limitation. As such, I plan to just bring over the following parts while upgrading everything else. My final budget for the upgrade would be around AUD1500 (excluding current parts). I'm also trying to search for a lightweight/small casing that can fit all the parts as I may have to move several times.

Parts that I will be bringing over:
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X OC Video Card
Storage: Crucial M4 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($172.00 @ Shopping Express)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Final System Build (Edited based on feedback received):
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($464.00 @ Umart)
Motherboard: Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($325.00 @ Shopping Express)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 Memory
Storage: Crucial M4 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($172.00 @ Shopping Express)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X OC Video Card
Power Supply: SeaSonic PRIME 650W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($289.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Casing: Any recommendation for a lightweight/small casing?

Would appreciate if you could advise on my current build. Any recommendation for it would be much appreciated.

TLDR: Moving country, need advice on upgrading PC.

Cheers

Well, that mobo does not support KabyLake CPUs (http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-Z170-HD3-DDR3-rev-10#support-cpu). You can swap CPU to 6700, or ... I don't think there are any Z270 that use DDR3 memory, so if you want that 7700, you will need to buy new memory.

You'll want to go ahead and get a 7th Gen board so that the CPU is guaranteed to work.

Z270, H270, B250. You really shouldn't consider DDR3 with Skylake or Kabylake, technically only support for DDR3L (low voltage) on select motherboards. Almost with certainty you won't be able to run at 1866 with that memory, you might get away with 1333 at 1.35 volts. (Something you can try now, undervolt your memory below 1.35 volts to see if it will even work)

If you are not going to overclock, not much need for a Z class board. If you intend to overclock you will need the 7700k and a CPU cooler. (It doesn't come with one)

Always Lian-Li aluminum chassis, but with an ATX board, it will still be pretty large.

There are problems with your build

First of them, you're getting a Sky Lake motherboard with a Kaby Lake CPU, even tho they match their sockets, you will need to update your Motherboard BIOS to support the 7700, so you will have to have to get a Sky lake to POST and do it. So my advice is so that you change the current mobo to a B250 or H270 one, no work need to make it work properly.

Also, you are using DDR3 memory, newer CPUs and MOBO use DDR4 so you won't be able to use those, sorry.

If you do not wish to overclock( getting the 7700 instead of the 7700K ), you should save some bucks and getting a lower end MOBO's chipset.

Appreciate everyone's advice. I forgot to mention that I may intend to overclock in the future. After going through your advice, I'll be changing the Motherboard, Memory and CPU. I selected 64gb memory as I may need the additional memory for my work. Refer below:

Also, any advice for a lightweight/small case that is easy to move around with. Thanks!

Yeah, I figured that the size of the GPU may be a problem. Let's put aside size for now. What are the available lightweight casings out there. My back isn't very good so I don't want to be lifting such a heavy casing when I move around.

This is one of those odd times where the available tools don't help much. There are no listings by weight or material, or cases that have handles.

I would use partpicker to sort by a price range you are thinking and then take a look at the ones that appeal to you.

Might have to make yourself a little spreadsheet.

You forgot to add an after-market cooler. Unlocked CPUs don't come with one within their boxes, you will have to get it yourself.

I'd say a Hyper 212 for budgety, or Cryorig H7 or H5 for overclock.
