Android Studio Upgradation

The current version of Android Studio installed on my ubuntu 16.04 os is 2.2.3. When I check for updates it says a new Android Studio 2.3 is available in stable channel. But I can't update. It says 'Studio does not have write access to /usr/local/android-studio. Please run it by a privileged user to update.'
How do I update?

do you have root or super user priv'l?

I can get root access in terminal by typing 'sudo su'.

then run the update from a terminal console somehow after doing that.

Yes, I did that. But don't know the command to update android studio.

sdkmanager --update

Didn't work.
root@HEWLETT-PACKARD:/usr/local/android-studio/bin# sdkmanager --update
sdkmanager: command not found

From "#" prompt: Execute

Code:

locate sdkmanager

. This will tell you where this program is located that, then just use full path.
