So it seems like any voltage past 1.3 will send me upwards of 90 celsius within 15 minutes. I've gotten 4.8 ghz at 1.3 and kept it under 90 for 15 minutes. should I keep pushing past 4.8 at 1.3 until it fails? is the goal to get max frequency at lowest voltage to keep temps below 85-90 during stress tests?

I'm using rog bench and cpu-z/hwmonitor. i7-7700k, kraken x52.

Thanks!

Being a novice at overclocking, I'd rather learn everything I can and find a stable OC as it is now before I try anything like delidding. But I yes I have read about that, perhaps in the near future

Nope you shouldn't push it any higher 90c is too hot you going to damage your CPU doing that I currently have mine at 4.7 and when I stress test with Aidia64 I average around mid 60c and with intel burn test around mid to high 70's.

85-90 not normal or close to normal for 100% load 4.8 ghz at 1.3+ voltage?

I'm not pushing the voltage anymore, which is the only thing that increases temp right? I'm asking if I should continute to push the frequency at same or lower voltage

Your right, but if your hitting 90 your 1st objective is to lower voltage until it becomes unstable not keep it the same and increase the speed it won't make your CPU any faster no matter how much you increase ghz with temps like that.
