Hello people, I plan on doing a simple RAM upgrade for my PC (8GB-16GB) Idk If I should buy a brand new 16gb kit or just add another 8gb to what I have. Right now I have Corsair Vengeance Pro 4x2 @ 1866. Should I just buy another kit of the same RAM and have 4x4 @ 1866 or is the extra $100 worth it to get the fastest speed I could get (2133). Both kits are CL9 and I plan on upgrading to ddr4 by 2019-2020 when needed so this is a temporary upgrade for the next 2 years or so. ALSO: if a new 16gb kit is better, would it be better to run 4x4 or 8x2? Thanks!

Solution
to be sure buy the kit

add another 8 gb might work well or might not, ram timmings and speed could not match and you could get running on single channel or not booting at all

about the speed of ram, the ddr you get will go as fast as is mentioned if the mainboard will support those speeds, otherwise it is money wasted on a option not usable by your mainboard
