So I'm moving my PC up to my room, but it does not have wireless internet. At the moment I am downstairs, plugged into the router. I looked at moving the router upstairs to my room but I don't have any internet or phone plugs in my room. Only a circular TV plug. My WiFi speeds are around Mbps. I'm not sure if thats fast or not, but I wanted to know whether I should get a wireless pci card or look at power line adapters. I live in NZ so I can't buy from shops like Newegg or Amazon. Also powerline adapters are kind of expensive. Will a wireless network adapter work for me? or is there another way to plug the router in my room? Thanks

If you use a cable modem to get your internet you might be able to move it the tv plug in your room. The wall jack would have to actually be connected to the outside connection that goes to the ISP. If you are lucky it will just work.

There is no way to really predict if wireless or even powerline will work. Wireless has more trouble going vertically because of how the antenna are designed. Powerline also has issue in some houses.

If you are like many other people on this forum one of your primary uses of your machine is to play games. Powerline tends to be more stable than wireless so it work better for games. You want to look at the newest models like tplink av1200. Other brands use the same av1200 standard will work...

I've had good luck with the powerline adapters but once in a while it would slow down. I ended up just dropping a cabled through the wall. I think if at all possible you may want to consider that.

The reason for the 1200 is they are using a newer technology that makes them faster but more important they tend to work in houses that the other units may not. Saves you the hassle of buying something and having to return it.

You could try a inexpensive USB WiFi card on a USB extension cable so you could place it in the best area of your room. It is fairly cheap to try.
