  • I5 4690
    2x4gb fury ram
    Gigabyte h81m ds2
Corsair rm 650 / random chieftec psu

So my amd system died and i bought a used i5 and mobo went home to put everything together only to see that it doesnt work.

As mentioned in the title the pc powers on the cpu fan spins up and after 2 or 3 seconds i hear my psu reseting the fan slows down and starts back up again, and this loop continues forever until i remove the power.

Ive done all the things in the no post sticky and without luck

I tried a different psu from my rm650 to the chieftec one and they both do the same thing

Only things connected are 24pin 4pin vga for onboard video 1 stick of ram and the cpu with hsf

So its either mobo cpu or ram

My biggest fear is that its the cpu but reading through countless forums ive learned that its unlikely?

If its the mobo no biggie it was 20 euros and the guy said he would refund me and i can keep it

Now memory

my amd system died with a bang

Could this have damaged my memory?

I dont have any other ram sticks to test with but i might be able to get a new board to test on

If anyone has experienced this i would LOVE YOU FOREVER if you can find a solution, ive been troubleshooting for 3 days with no luck.

Well, how many memory sticks do you have? Have you tried each stick individually? Also make sure to try resetting the BIOS if you haven't already (unplug from power, pop off little button battery for a minute before restarting).

Sorry, just read you have 2 sticks.

is there a memok button on your 20 euro intel mobo?
remove cmos battery and either put it in only after half an hour. or buy a new one and put the new one in. see if a cmos battery change will help.
sounds like a failed overclock. but you already cleared cmos so the battery is the thing to test.

edit: is there a auto overclock jumper or button on that mobo? you may need to switch it to off.
and as far as bios update go, the op's mobo supports 4690k with version F5, and all cpu supported needs F5. So I'm thinking F5 is the original bios. and hence he should not need to update bios.

Without ram the problem is still the same and i dont think you can run a pc without a cpu

When i checked 99 precent of the cpus needed bios version f5 so assume its the default one so i guess that is not the problem

Well you certainly can't do anything useful without the CPU but it's not doing anything useful now. The board will start, I'm wondering for the purpose of troubleshooting whether it gets into the same loop or stays on.

However, CPU failures are uncommon. I'd tend to associate this with the board in some fashion, whether as a BIOS issue (hopefully solvable) or just a bad board. The fact it does the same thing without the sticks makes me feel it's probably not the sticks. Also, as you tested both sticks individually you'd have to have two bad sticks at once, which again isn't too likely.

You're up to something
Without the cpu it still reboots
So that is a huge relief

I guess im refunding my 20euro board if it still doesnt work tommorow after the battery test

The guy i bought it from and said if it still doesnt work he will refund me the money and i get to keep the board
But i feel like the board isnt bad hardware wise i think it has to do with the bios because he said he tried to build a hackintosh woth it and had some other i5 in it so maybe its just bricked
