my monitor doesn't receive signal when I connect it to my video card. the monitor connects via vga but my video card connects via dvid or hdmi so I went out and bought a adaptor that connects hdmi to vga but when I plug it in it doesn't work. I have plugged it into a tv through hdmi and I also took out the video card and plugged the monitor into the motherboards built in vga slot and they both worked so its not a issue with the monitor or hdmi slot on the card. the only thing that I can see being wrong is the adaptor doesn't work but I exchanged it already for a new one and still the same result. any help would be appreciated
ps I even went out and bought a new monitor because I didn't think mine was compatable or something so the only thing that I haven't tried is connecting from the dvid slot because I don't have a cable for that.

Solution
Yes that one will work.

HDMI and DVI-D are digital signals, while VGA is analog. Your GPU has the digital signal it wants to send to your analog monitor. Your monitor doesn't send a signal to your GPU, so analog to digital doesn't work out in that situation.

The converter you have now would work if you had an analog (VGA) GPU that you wanted to hook up to a digital (HDMI) monitor/TV.
