hey guys

i recently built a pc for the first time.
i dont know much about about it. a friend told me that i must get a m.2 as storage. so i managed to put the pc together and installed windows 10 with no issues. now my question is

how do i know if my m.2 storage is working as it should be?

ive seen videos online that boot up only take around 4-6 secs. mine boots up pretty fast at 10-15 secs but im unsure if ive setup my m.2 properly.

my pc parts are

-MSI B250 Gaming M3 motherboard

-Intel Core i5 7500 Quad Core LGA 1151 3.4 GHz CPU Processor
-Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 G1 Gaming 3GB Video Card
-WD Green 240GB M.2 SSD WDS240G1G0B

its my first time building a pc. i just want to know if ive setup my m.2 correctly.

Thanks in advance!!

Your read/write rates will be the same. Your boot time might be faster by a second or two with UEFI boot. But that's a MAYBE. In order to change modes you'll need to reinstall the Windows 10 OS from a UEFI built USB image.
There are some tricks that apparently let you convert from legacy to UEFI in place, but I haven't tried them so can't attest to their validity.
If your M.2 SSD is the only drive it the system and you are able to boot into Windows 10 then you installed it correctly. :)

The super short boot times are most likely with 'UEFI mode' enabled. You probably installed Windows in 'legacy mode' which performs a few extra checks during boot. Also, you can't just go into BIOS and switch modes. If you want to use UEFI mode you'll need to install Windows 10 in UEFI mode. I wouldn't worry about it. There's no difference in performance once the system is booted up.
