Hello Good Folks,

I'm currently wanting to install an Andoid Stereo System in my 2004 Chevy Silverado, but I have no earthly idea about any of this stuff. I do know that I want an in-dash touchscreen with an Android OS, but I have no idea where to start looking and what it is that I actually need to make this work.

Lots of things to consider, like first, how big of a "DIN" system does your current stereo occupy. How much do you want to spend. Odd's are you'll want someone to install it. Paying a car stereo place to do this will cost a good penny if you don't buy a system from them.

Most car stereo places don't really sell the android based ones, they are China made systems that are basically a tablet interfaced to an amp, allows backup cameras, etc.


Can it be done, sure. As a first car stereo project, your millage may vary depending on how good you are with soldering, wiring, etc...

The ebay/amazon android systems are not mainstream devices put out by large companies (pioneer, sony, etc).
They are chinese units like getochkn said; these units will have some bugs and will often require some modifying to get it to fit.
Quality will vary greatly between them. Pumpkin and Joying seem to be the 2 biggest brands with the closest to a main-stream product.

These systems will likley not be "bug free" and require some user tinkering and still may be a little unstable at times.

The Android Auto stereos by the large companies are much more tested "field-ready" devices but come at a pretty hefty price tag, i think the "bottom end" ones are $500 range.

Alright, with these things being from China, I'm a little more apprehensive when it comes to making a purchase. Let me ask you this, then: Is there a double din touch screen car audio system that I can install that will allow me to use Sirius XM?

Regular (no android OS) double din, touch, and Sirius XM... you can find well over 100 of them from the mainstream brands.
