Hi there,

I am getting to the part where I need to buy my Mobo and CPU now in order to start creating the build, but I'm debating on the following...

Option 1:

Intel i5 6600K Processor
Asus Z170 Gaming Motherboard
Cooler yet to be confirmed

Option 2:

Intel i5 7600 Processor
Asus Prime B-250M-K Motherboard
Stock Cooler/Hyper 212 EVO

I am a newbie at Overclocking, but wondered if it was worth the £20-£30 on a 6600K setup or if I should just stick to my 7600 plan, opinions?

P.S. If you're telling me to opt for Intel i5 6600K, then tell me what Cooler to use (I have a Corsair SPEC-ALPHA Case

if it was my money, the i5 7600, a good z270 mainboard, not 8 16gbs in 2x8gbs ddr4 kit and a decent gpu to go with it

about the evo, recenly people is recomending more the criorig h7, it is a matter of choice and shape of your case i guess, if one is noisier than the others, options and opinions as always

Speculating the R5 will be faster than the i5 in games seems unlikely. Seeing as the R7 looses out for gaming to the i7 7700k which is essentially an 7600k but with hyperthreading it seems reasonable to assume the R5 will have weaker single core performance than the i5.

If you want to overclock then get the 6600k, when overclocked it will outperform a 7600. If you don't want to overclock then get the 7600 as its slightly faster at stock speeds.

Is overclocking difficult and does it take a long time to perfect? I'd like to, but I've never done it before, what wuold you say I should opt for?
