Ive had this problem in the past and have done everything at least i think in my powet to fix it. I tried to update my drivers on my gtx 970 not through geforce experience because that doesnt work either for me, but by going online and downloading it. The installer doesnt work it fails time and time again. I used a Ddu program to unistall all the old drives and when i try to download and install the new one it's a no go. Have had this problem in the past but now it is reall bothering because i have dual monitors and cant use them because of the issue. Help would be extremely apprciated. Thanks.
P.s how should i start to get into overclocking, what to do first?

I had a similar problem, and finally fixed it today.

I used the DDU application to wipe the old drivers, but couldn't install the latest driver, it kept failing. The common issue MOST of the time was that permission was denied to write into C:NVIDIA or something like that. So, I found that folder, and discovered that there were several files there from the different failed drivers I tried to install (that the DDU app didn't erase). I trashed them, and then changed the permissions of the folder from read only to read and write. Then, FINALLY, the new install worked! Just to be on the safe side, I installed the previous version of the driver too, not the latest.

It fails when it tries ti install the driver, I have windows 10, I extract it into my ssd and I always choose custom install and also always perform a clean install.

I'll have to try this when I get home, what files were you trashing so that I don't accidentally delete something really important?

Update: This didn't work the installer is still failing, even after I trashed all the files and did a clean install.

Try temporarily disabling it before installing the driver.
