RAM Overclock boosted my FPS by almost 20 - 30 frames

Hi People,
As the title says... i enabled XMP profile on my RAM after a bit of trail and error and overclocked it from 1333 Mhz to 2400 Mhz.
I've often heard that RAM speed doesn't matter, but i was pleasantly surprised to see my FPS jump up 20-30 literally across the board - Witcher3, Forza H 3, Gears of War 3, BF1, Just Cause 3, etc etc It was quite literally unbelievable.

Here is my setup:

i7 4790K
Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7
G.Skill 16GB 2400 Mhz (was running at 1333Mhz until now)
Asus ROG Strix GTX 1070
Asus ROG 1440p 144hz TN Gsync monitor

So can anyone explain why overclocking my ram gave me such a performance boost?
How is it possible that my RAM was holding back my system by so much?
Almost all the famous youtubers kept saying RAM SPEED DOESN'T MATTER.
But clearly it freaking does, doesn't it?

I was planning on buying a GTX 1080Ti, but now I feel like my current CPU & RAM will simply bottleneck it... is that True?

RAM speed does matter from 1333Mhz to 2400Mhz, that is a big jump

Going from 2133 to 2400Mhz would probably not be that big of a jump.

The reason why you saw/felt such a difference is because you were probably 'starving'/limiting your system's normal operation by leaving your RAM at 1333Mhz.

Also, XMP - Xtreme Memory Profile - improves both frequency & timings (both of which increase the performance of your system).

Memory can improve system performance, what most people mean when they say it's not worth it, are those incremental improvements at a cost of twice the $ or very high voltage.
The performance/risk/cost doesn't make it 'worth it'.

But, yes, as I said, you will see it improve, especially from 1333Mhz (which is pretty old...

Where I've seen memory boosts work their best, is in APU/iGPU performance increase.
