I was to get rid of windows once and for all today. One too many times has Windows 7 downloaded and installed updates without my consent, even after switching the option off for the umpteenth time. Using Unetbootin, I extracted an archlinux iso onto my hard drive with the intent on replacing windows on this computer for good.

I restarted the computer. I forgot I left fastboot (msi's motherboard thing) on, which turns off all basic usb function before boot with the assumption that windows will just boot up. This of course makes booting faster, but bars me from having any input before boot. That's ok, I thought. I will just boot windows back up and turn it off! I have software for that!

Unfortunately, in extracting unetbootin to the C drive, windows thought there was some fatal error. It brought me to a new screen called error recovery. The default option was to boot up to windows recovery.

Since I had no way of inputting anything I was brought to the windows recovery thing. I had an idea. I brilliant one! What if I just disable windows recovery! That way I will just default to windows 7! So I looked online a bit and found a command to essentially turn off windows recovery tool. I did so. I restarted. The option was still there. And default.

Now every time I turn on the computer the computer tries to boot the windows recovery tool. Since it is disabled, it can't. So I go to a black screen. There is no way for me to change course.

I put in my Windows 7 installation disk. It does not try to boot from that. It keeps trying to boot from the hard drive because a while back I made it do so. I got annoyed every time because I had to press a button to not boot from the disk by default.

Is there any way to get out of this endless hell?

Note: I do not currently have a computer that I can transfer my hard drive to. Sata ports in all my other devices are not available. Also, I tried to use ps2 ports to no avail. I tried restarting before disabling windows recovery tool, but it kept on giving me the error.

Since you are trying to wipe Windows anyway, best thing to do is on another computer download and create the Linux boot media. Then reset the BIOS in your computer to turn off whatever you adjusted, boot from the disk, install Linux. You may not have a computer now to move your disk into but you don't need to do that, all you need to do is have someone download and create a boot media for you for Linux.

Not sure why you are against Windows updates, they are there in 95% of cases for security patches which are a good thing to have.
