Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading my PC and i'm curious what i need/should upgrade in order to get the best performance i can. I'll include the current specs/items in the rig as of now and at the end i will throw in some links to what i was thinking of upgrading. Cheers

CPU -- Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz - Sandy Bridge

MOBO -- ASUS P8H61-M LE

RAM -- 16GB DDR4 - Kingston HyperX

GPU -- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB

PSU -- Unsure as i have to check but i'm pretty sure it's between 500W and 700W

Now i think it was about 2 years ago i upgraded to the 960 GPU, and i'm considering re-upgrading to something better.

As far as i know i think the i5 2500K Is still pretty decent and i am thinking about waiting for some of the i7's to drop in price a little more... Thinking of upgrading Processor at a later date, maybe in another 6-12 months.

MOBO is pretty old and small, It fits my 960 just right, and seems to be doing the job, I'm leaning towards upgrading this along with the GPU, though i may wait to upgrade the MOBO and Processor at the same time. - Also i think my MOBO can't support the full amount of my RAM as it's like 2400MHz and max is like 1888MHz or something. Is this a big deal?

RAM seems to be fine and i'm having no issues with it like i did when i was on 4gb. Not planning on upgrading this.

PSU i think will be ok for now, though will probably upgrade it once i do the MOBO+CPU.

I've been having some "High Temps" with the CPU (It's been giving a little warning pop up over games etc in the bottom right hand corner) as of late ( Just finishing summer and it tends to "Warn" when it's a really hot day, when it's a cooler day there are no issues so i was thinking about Replacing my fan with a Liquid Cooler CPU fan, Is this recommended? Or should i just make do with the fan i have now seeing as summer is now over?

Here is a list of what i was planning on putting INTO my build :

GPU : https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-gtx-1060-armor-6g-oc-gaming-graphics-card (Cheapest)
https://www.centrecom.com.au/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1070-windforce-oc-8gb-graphics-card (Personal Choice)
https://www.centrecom.com.au/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1070-g1-gaming-8gb (Un-sure of?)

CPU Cooler : https://www.centrecom.com.au/corsair-h60se-liquid-cpu-cooler

MOBO : https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-e3-krait-gaming-v5-lga-1151-motherboard ((((( OR ))))) https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-z170a-gaming-m3-socket-lga1151-atx-gaming-motherboard-ddr4

With the GPU's I'm pretty sure I've ruled out the 1060, though thought i would throw it in there to see everyone else's opinions/thoughts on the 1060 v 1070 WindForce.

I'm leaning more toward the 1070 WindForce due to the fact that the dimensions are much closer to the size of the 960 i'm currently running and i am unsure if the bigger more expensive 1070 G1 will fit in the same space as my Tower is slightly lacking in the GPU space in length, and i'm unsure if it would even fit on my current MOBO.

Would Either or Neither of those 1070's FIT on my current MOBO?
Which out of the 3 is the Better choice - taking into consideration the Prices?
Should i even worry about the CPU Cooler?
Could i get away with not upgrading the MOBO? if not Which of the 2 would be the better choice?

Regarding the MOBO - I'm also looking for alternatives that are slightly cheaper and would work well, if you have time or know of some, please shoot some links into the topic for me to take a look at!

Solution
1. your motherboard only support 2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 1333/1066 Hz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory not DDR4
2. your CPU is 2nd Gen will not work on a Z170 board, when you upgrade MOBO your also upgrading CPU and ram. this is not optional so please state the CPU you have eyes on waiting to decide what Mobo to buy, its important as a i7 -7600K and Z270 board is a good combo, a I7-7700K with a z170 isn't. (needs Z270) .

Ah sorry, for CPU Upgrade in the future i was thinking i7 Skylake - Though have 2 other more expensive options. here are my top 3 for future.

https://www.centrecom.com.au/intel-core-i7-7700-lga-1151-cpu-bx80677i77700

So stick with my CPU and MOBO for now and upgrade them together ( Which is what my plan was ) I'm pretty sure this is what ram is currently in my PC : https://www.centrecom.com.au/kingston-hyperx-fury-16gb-2-x-8gb-2400mhz-ddr4-ram-black-hx424c15fbk216 OR https://www.centrecom.com.au/kingston-hyperx-fury-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-black - I remember getting Hyper X (Red colour) Again it was a while ago. Will i need to upgrade my Ram to DDR4 if they are not already DDR4 when i do my MOBO + CPU?

Ahk, i was unsure if it was DDR4 or DDR3 that i put in, but just reading up that DDR4 wont work in DDR3 MOBO's gives me the answer. Will i need DDR4 if i upgrade to the Skylake i7? or will the current DDR3 work? -- Also, out of the 3, which would you suggest is the best upgrade from the i5-2500k i already have? Taking into consideration the price differences?

Cheers
