I wanted to buy 1 stick of ram 8gb ddr4 and then upgrade to 16 later but I heard that the ram may not work so should I buy 2 sticks of 4? But that will fil my ram slots

Solution
e.g. if you decide to buy gskills ripjaws v 8 gb now and all you got to do is buy the same model gskills ripjaws v 8 gb later there is no reason it won't work together.
but if you rather waste money, hey, to each his own.

no problem with only one stick. computer will work but just not in dual channel. but when you upgrade you might want to buy the exact brand and model which may not be on the market then.
right now if you want to eventually have 16 gb then you should not buy 2 sticks of 4gb.

but if he buy two sticks of 4 then he will be stuck at 8 gb and if he were to want 16 gb later then he will end up with 2 worthless 4gb sticks.

If he were to buy one stick of 8gb then the computer will work fine just not in dual channel. but I thin the op may have budgetary concerns.

So right now he should buy 8gb and buy another 8 gb may he have the money

or if he already have money then he shoudl buy 2 sticks of 8. He should not buy 2 sticks of 4 in any circumstance.

It is true he will be stuck at 8gb and 2 sticks, and the computer will also work :) But I would still argue that he should buy 2 sticks, and get the full speed. Especially in gaming that could be felt. If the possibility to upgrade comes down the line, he could always sell the 2 old sticks. Besides RAM is fairly cheap these days, so its not that expensive to upgrade down the line.

say 2 sticks of 4 cost 50 dollars.
and 1 stick of 8 cost 60 dollars.
and op does not have 120 dollars. but he does have 70 dollars.

so I am telling him to buy 1 stick of 8 costing 60 dollars and after half a year when he has the money he will be able to buy another stick of 8 for 60 dollars

you are telling him to buy 2 sticks of 4 worth 50 dollars right now and when he has the money he will buy 16 gb of 2x8 when he has the money. so he end up spending 170 and end up with 2x8 gb which he put into his system and 2x4 sticks of 8gb which is useless. he ends up wasting 50 dollars.

edit: op only has 2 dimm slots.

I will get 2 sticks of 4gb I don't want to buy 1 stick of 8gb and then when I upgrade in the future the other 8gb refuses to work with the other. When I will need to upgrade to 16gb I will sell my 2x 4gb and and then get the 16gb my budget is strict
