Hi everyone, just want to start off by thanking the community for all responses.

My friend bought a used PC from a local vendor and after months and months of use he was hit with a "please activate genuine windows." We are going to the shop today when they open to figure out why the heck windows is non genuine all of a sudden. ( i always prefer my friends let me build their PC but this friend was just eager to get something cheap and fast. bad choice)

He did have win7 64bit. and his specs are:

AMD-8300
MSI mobo( sorry dont know the actual model)
Samsung 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
two SLI GeForce 660 Ti
240 Patriot SSD

My question is: Since windows deactivated, is this the reason for the 4GB not being used? CPUID / BIOS show 8GB is being read, memtest checked out OK. I have reseated the ram and tested them individually and they both show 4GB used only using 1 stick on each test.

Thanks for your time and support

windows being deactivated would limit anything like ram. did you check to make sure you are on ther 64-bit version of windows? if so then without knowing what motherboard you have you could have a bad ram stick or your ram needs to be reinstalled physically in the computer case

I will get info on the mobo when i see my bud later
also, its a non genuine windows 7 64bit from what i saw.
i will try to reseat the cpu and ram again.

Also the company who sold my friend the PC is refusing to look into the windows activation and Microsoft wont do anything due to buying it from a local vendor. Unfortunately my friend will need to buy a new CDKEY!
