Need help for upgrading motherboard to USB 3.0/SATA 3.0

Hello everyone,

My motherboard is an AsRock H61M-VG4. It has only one PCIE x16 which is fortunately 3.0 and only ONE PCIE x1, which is 2.0. Since this mobo only supports USB 2.0 and Sata II, i was thinking of using a component for upgrading to USB 3.0 and SATA III. The ONLY suitable component to fit in my SINGLE PCIE 2.0 x1 and upgrade both usb and sata was this:

https://www.amazon.com/Syba-ASMedia-Chipset-Components-SD-PEX50064/dp/B00MVTB7Q4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1489676273&sr=1-1&keywords=pcie+2.0+x1+usb+3.0+and+sata+3

I am confused because in the description it is clearly stated that the device requires a PCIE 2.0 x1 slot, but having a look at the comments section, some say that in order to enjoy the full potential, you must have a PCIE 2.0 x4 or more. I just don't get it. If it fits in a PCIE x1, then how a longer PCIE port would do anything to that? If you follow the link you can see two 4-pin modules as well, obviously one for the USB 3.0 and one for the Sata III.
So, what it the deal here? is it worth it or not? If i am not able to get the full potential speed ( i don't care about RAID technology), then i think i should save the money and upgrade later straight forward to a new mobo and CPU.
Thanks in advance

Interesting. Looks like 4-port version indeed needs x4 interface (see the longer slot?), but 6-port version needs only x1 slot. And most comments out there are about 4-port version. Checked the manual for 6-port version, and it is definitely using x1 slot. I think the difference is those versions is that they use totally different chip (SD-PEX50055 vs VLI VL805 & as media 1061), that is why they need different port specs.

Oooh God, you are most probably correct. I didn;t even notice there was a 4-port version. But it is strange that a 4-port requires x4 and a 6-port requires x1. Dunno, maybe the second 4-pin module added for the x1 version is exactly to equalize the power draw. Thank you, i think i ll give it a try, the cost is not that bad for upgrading both sata and usb.
