I bought a new Asus Strix RX 480 in December and it worked perfectly until today.

I don't know if this is relevant but last night I was watching TV and and my PC woke itself from sleep, sounded like it was working hard then went back to sleep. I assumed it was installing updates or something.

When I woke up the next morning I turned the PC on and there was no signal on my monitor via DP nor my TV via HDMI. The RGB lights are working fine so the GPU isn't totally dead or anything like that. If I disconnect the card and use the onboard graphics everything works fine both on TV and monitor.

Any ideas on what could be the problem other than a defective GPU? I've had the thing only 3 months and never even overclocked it more than a couple %.

My PC specs:
msi z170 gaming pro carbon
i7 6700k
asus strix rx 480
16gb DDR4
Corsair cx750m

I set the Integrated graphics as the default in the BIOS and re-installed my RX 480 and my PC recognizes it. Tried rolling back drivers. HDMI via integrated graphics works fine (albeit when I booted into the BIOS after reinstalling the GPU it flickered on and off for like 30 seconds before settling down) When I switch to display port which is connected to the 480 I get no signal. If the GPU were dead would my PC still be able to recognize it in device manager?

Ok now the image is starting to blink on and off. Screen will go black for a few seconds then display again and repeat this for a minute or 2 and then stop. And this is on integrated graphics. The RX 480 is not in the PC at all. Wtf is going on? It's not the monitor as I've tried 3 different ones and the blinking thing happened on a different display too.

Yep, I've used 2 different DP cables, one of them brand new, and 2 HDMI cables. When I turn the PC on and it boots up the image is glitchy. I see artifacts and screen tearing. This only lasts for a few seconds while it boots up. I plan on trying my 480 in a friend's PC tomorrow and his in mine which will pretty much confirm it's the mobo. One of the fan headers already doesn't work and the USB 3.0 header only half works so wouldn't be too surprised if it was the mb :(

So I took my PC and GPU over to my friend's house. I couldn't try my GPU in his machine because it's too big so I tried his in mine to see if it was a problem with my PC. Booted up and it worked fine. Just to make sure I put my RX 480 back in, plugged in HDMI and it gets a signal on post but only black screen after that. I plug it into the other HDMI port and it says no signal. I plug it back into the first port and reboot and voila I get a signal. Windows boots up and everything seems fine. After a 2nd reboot I get a signal on the other HDMI port as well. So I figure ok my HDMI works again, even though it didn't before, but what about display port? I get back home and try display port (his monitor didn't have one) and it works again like nothing was ever wrong. I have no idea what the issue was. My guess it's something within Windows/drivers because all this started the morning after my PC woke itself up to install updates and it was acting weird even with integrated graphics.
