I ordered the ASRock Motherboard Micro ATX DDR4 B150M PRO4 for a budget build and was wondering if it was compatible with the i5-7500. I originally had my eyes set on the i5-6500 but saw that the 7500 is newer and slightly cheaper.
Would highly suggest getting a B250M instead to avoid any potential/probable BIOS update pairing the Kaby Lake (i5-7500) CPU with a B150M (Skylake series) motherboard.
Unless you can verify if the B150M motherboard you will get was manufactured after the release of the Kaby Lake CPU's, in which, case, it *might* have an updated BIOS out-of-the-box for your i5-7500 to work.
Actually I just checked and it does support it.
That's great! Just make sure that the mobo does have an updated BIOS, not just "support" it. Some mobo would say "supports 7th-gen Intel CPUs" but with a condition (i.e., you have to update the BIOS).
If it's verified by the seller/store that it does in fact run with the i5-7500, then you can safely...

I've looked around and everyone seems to say the BIOS may need an update. Thanks for your answer. I may just go with the i5-6500 because although the i5-7500 is newer and approximately $15 cheaper it only offers a gain of 0-2 FPS average on most titles.
