CPU won't boot after new power supply install

A few months ago, I built my first gaming PC. After a few hiccups in the beginning (common first build issues), my PC booted up and everything worked great. Then, last week I started to see some strange behavior. I primarily use my PC to use X-Plane (flight simulator), and my computer would randomly crash after using the simulator for a while (sometimes it was the computer and sometimes it was just the app). While I initially thought it may have been my graphics card, I ruled that out since this was a GTX 1070 and I wasn't running it at the highest settings, and I determined that it should have been capable of handling the load since it used to before. Furthermore, I kept track of temperatures always and it never exceeded 72 degrees celsius. Eventually, after doing some research, I realized it could be my power supply (650W) not being able to handle the load at full graphics. I'd been wanting to get a higher power supply for a while, and found that even if this wasn't the issue, I could use the better power supply if I decide to SLI/Upgrade down the road at some point. So I went and bought a Corsair RM1000i PSU from Fry's.

When I removed the old EVGA 650, and replaced it with the 1000W Corsair, and tried to boot it up, my computer wouldn't start. It showed a little life right when I hit the button (my liquid cooler would light up for a split second, and my PSU fan would start rotating), but then it died almost immediately, and nothing would happen. My GPU does light up, and the PW LED on my MB does light up, and thats it. It also made a small electrical noise (sounded like a spark or a shuffling noise but its hard to describe). Nothing else happens. The CPU and Case fans don't come on. Weirdly, it only makes this noise the first time I try to boot after if I turn off and turn on the PSU. I did some research and checked my Power Switch front panel connector to make sure its plugged in. It is.

I gave up, and switched back to my old 650W PSU because I just wanted to see my computer work again, but sadly, it won't start up with the old one either. This time, it doesn't even make that small noise of life it made before. The GPU and MB PWR LED still light up though.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going wrong? Could my MB or my CPU be fried, or could it be something else? What could I have done wrong? I thought I was careful when I installed the new PSU. I did use anti-static protection. The only thing I can think of that wasn't perfect was the fact that I had to jam that 24 pin MB cable into the socket a little bit since it was tough to get it to lock.

Here's my build if it helps:
CPU : Intel i5 6600K
Cooler: Corsair H100I V2 Liquid
Motherboard: ASUS Z170A
GPU: ASUS DUAL GTX 1070
PSU: EVGA 650W 80 GOLD plus (Old), Corsair RM1000i 1000W (New)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2X8GB)

Any help is appreciated.

Solution
The system would work fine on the 650 watt power supply you had. Sounds like you did not hook up something properly or maybe damaged the motherboard with that jamming of the power connector. Have someone that build systems before look things over. You may have the motherboard improperly installed in the case also, with a stand-off in the wrong place.
