So i have 2x4GB Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz, and i want a total of 16GB. It would be a lot cheaper for me to buy another 2x4 kit, but would there be any good reason to go and buy 2x8 and get rid of my current 2x4? I dont really know much about dual channel and stuff.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170-Gaming K3

If you buy the identical model kit chances are it will work fine. However if there was some sort of revision done since you purchased it its POSSIBLE they will be incompatible. IMO its worth a shot, worst thing that happens is you return them and buy a set of 2x8

while it is cheaper, it is not guaranteed that the new kit will work identically to the old one in terms of ram timings

some mainboard will just decide not to recognice the new kit or detect incorrect speeds

sometimes is all happines and all will work just fine in dualchanel and is just plug and enjoy

there is no guarantee of this to work 100% correct

what is safer is a 2x8gb kit but as you say, the price is a concern
