So I'm upgrading my motherboard from the MSI B150 pc mate to a gigabyte z170x gaming 7.
I've already taken out my b150 for when my z170 gets here in the mail but I'm curious on data transfer. Will my apps and such still be on my computer if it wasn't installed in my hard drive? Or will it save on my windows 10 OS and be transferred automatically. Please help, first time doing a motherboard.

If it's an OEM Windows license you got with your initial PC, you'll likely need a new license. You'll have to call Microsoft support to confirm.
replacing a motherboard is like getting a whole new computer when it comes to windows. it will be hit or miss on if it will be able to boot or run stable on the new motherboard so its recommended to backup all inportent data and do a clean install of windows. also make sure your windows licence is linked to a MS account or your copy of windows may get deactivated after changing the motherboard
