Well, I built my computer in December of 2010(Specs in sig) and the only thing I've HAD to do was upgrade the GPU. I upgraded the RAM from 12gb to 24gb only because the kits are getting scarce and so prices rising, basically i was trying to get ahead of massive price increases on them.

I can run DOOM 2016 on Ultra, Forza Horizon 3 on High, Fallout 4 on mostly max settings and I'm just thinking I might upgrade to Cannonlake or Ryzen-2(or whatever it will be called).

Depends on your expectations. Based on past history 5 years from now that should have no problem playing the newest games on like medium settings.

If you're worried about component failure, don't. Other than the hard drive, most of that stuff will likely last forever unless you overheat it all the time.

That strongly depends on what you expect from it, and what the industry comes up with in the next few years.

Do you intend to do minor upgrades at some point? If so, you would want to upgrade the GPU in about 3-4 years. Otherwise, you'll just have to turn your settings down about then.

You could probably get 4-6 years out of the CPU. Once you decide to upgrade the CPU, you probably want to start a new build.

You'll want to get an SSD to boot from. Depending on what you get and how you use it, it'll last from 5 to 10 years.

That said, the PSU you have is liable to take the entire thing out in a matter of months if you're unlucky. If you're lucky, it may last 2 years and won't destroy the computer when it goes.
