Color glitch at random when using HDMI from comp to TV

Problem in short: Seemingly at random the screen goes black for a second then it returns with the colors all messed up (mostly bright coloring, but no green screen like other reports).

Longer story: I use my i5 computer and it's AMD 7970 3gb card to surf and watch movies on my TV, standard stuff overall. The card has displayport but I use an adapter and HDMI cable which works except the glitch in question. I've tried more than one port and two seperate (one brand new high-speed HDMI) cables. I do not see the TV as the active culprit as I can see the computer screen (while cloning) also going black for a second before glitching out.

I see no logical pattern to the glitch strikes. Neither the computer nor graphics card are overheated (or overclocked). Regular surfing, watching movie, playing some light-weight games, it doesnt matter what I'm doing it sets off a glitch eventually and at different times. I can watch 50 minutes of a movie before it happens or just 5 mins but it will happen.

The OS is Windows 7, 16GB ram, fully updated, latest AMD drivers & software, latest DirectX. I use Comodo Internet Security but it doesn't report any interference with the comp-to-tv operation.

I'm at a loss to figure this out. Any help is appreciated.

The card does not have a VGA port only displayport and DVI.
Both the HDMI cables I use are 3 meters in length.
I do not have access to a second monitor at the moment but it should not be impossible for me to find one so I can do some tests.
The power connector seems to be in working order. I have never had this graphics glitch when only using my regular computer. The monitor is also barely 6 months old.

I forgot to mention in the original post: Once the glitch appears I can remove it by switching the mode to (for instance) extended desktop instead of cloned. I can also withdraw the HDMI cable and then put it back which will also reset the screen and remove the glitch.
Of course that is a bit of a hassle to do every time and it's not a solution per se.

I don't have such an adapter, nor a VGA port anywhere else to connect it to anyways.

I double checked my TV and it does have a VGA port which I forgot was even there.

For the past 6 hours I've had a DVI-to-VGA adapter (which I borrowed) connected a VGA cable from my computer to my TV. I spent the first hour doing the same as before: Surfing, watching some movies and then I left my apartment for the remainder of the time. When I came home just a few moments ago I noticed the TV was still recieving the signal properly with no glitch shown whatsoever.

I've tried the other port but the same thing (with HDMI cable). Took less than a minute this time before it happened. I double-checked for a potential loose cable on either ends but it was a solid fit.
I used my cellphone to take a couple of pics of how the colors are messed up.

A thought: could it be the Radeon software and/or settings that are doing something to cause this?
I use the latest radeon drivers and software but I use only standard settings like "gpu scaling", "virtual super resolution", "hdmi link assurance" which I admittedly do not know anything about really. (The only thing I've set manually is the "hdmi scaling so the desktop fits the TV screen)

After my last post I decided to purge all the old Radeon drivers & software and do a reinstall. With the risk of jinxing it, after some work I've not had any glitches all day and it MIGHT be resolved. I've done exactly the same thing as before: Surfing, some gaming both high and low intense GPU/CPU games, even left a movie showing in the background while I went on an errand.

The possible cause for the color glitch is not identified however. I discovered a set of settings (!) for the dual-monitor feature via Radeon's "Additional Settings" button. I set the Color Pixel format from the old "YCbCbr" to "RGB". After reinstalling and setting the mentioned "Pixel Format" I've not had a glitch since. I forgot to be methodical though. I did all this work and THEN tried it instead of doing the steps one by one so I could identify the exact issue. It might be the RGB vs YCbCbr or it might be the purging of the drivers/software....

It works now anyways (knock on wood). I'm gonna give it another day of testing before I mark this topic "solved".
Thanks for the help!
