Hi! A few months ago I found Need For Speed 2 at a thrift store. I bought it and thought it would be cool to collect some retro PC games. I tried to play it, got an error, and didn't try again. Now, I actually kinda wanna play it, so I wanna resolve the error.

So I put in the disc. This is what i get https://postimg.org/image/64g2xa42t/

Next, I click on "NFSW", I get this https://s14.postimg.org/mzxbn3s8h/Screenshot_6.png

So next I try "AUTO RUN" and I get this https://s21.postimg.org/6fawg3mjr/Screenshot_7.png

Then, I try running both in compatibility mode. I use recommended settings (Windows Vista 3) and I also try Windows 98. Same thing. What can I try next?

Solution
This is a problem with some old games from the Windows 95/98 era, I'm pretty sure Need for Speed 2 itself is a 32 bit application, but the installer is 16 bit only and won't work in 64 bit Windows. Go to the PCGamingWiki page here scroll down and download the fan made installer for 64 bit operating systems. That should get it to work without needing a VM.
You are not going to get a 16 bit application working on Windows 10 without some sort of emulator.
Depending on the version of Windows 10, it may have some compatibility features.
Other than that, you could run a virtual machine in VMWare for an old version of Windows. You might get it working on a 32-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows XP. If not, you might need Windows 98 SE.

Like, I would need to actually load Windows 98 onto my computer? is there any way to still have Windows 10 and Windows 98.

So, the NFSW file, I go to properties, and choose Windows 95 I guess.

Edit: same problem. Just says the app stopped working.

Really thank you so much, it works quite well the game. I'm just wondering if the sound it's a little bit delayed but not really sure, anyway works flawlessly in windows 10 64 bits.
