Connecting an external hard [disk] drive using SATA cables.

Hello, I have a WD external hard [strike]disk[/strike] drive which has gone completely nuts. It doesn't get recognized. Believe me, it doesn't work at all.

So, I removed the outer cover and stuff, and removed the SATA to USB connector. Now it's got a SATA port. So, I was wondering if I could connect the hard disk directly to my PC, using SATA cables, to the motherboard. If it's possible, could someone tell me what the two ports on the hard disk are? I know the smaller port is where the SATA cable goes, but what about the wider port? Does it require a seperate cable?

And sub question here. Could I remove the SATA cable and the wider cable from the CD drive reader and use it on the hard disk? Because there isn't another port on the motherboard for another of those wider cables. There happens to be only 2, one for the CD drive, the other for the internal hard disk.

Any help appreciated
Thanks,
:)

Oh, sorry, got confused between the power supply and the wires on the motherboard. Yes, they come out of the PSU. So can I use the SATA cable and power cable connected to the CD drive? I don't use the CD drive anymore, so will using those cables cause any problems?

Thanks.

Yes, you can use those.
